Pro Social Rewards

Empowering Positive Change Through Pro-Social Behaviour

Our pro-social system instills a sense of pride and joy in children as they engage in acts of kindness and support for others. This positive feedback loop encourages them to seek out more opportunities to help, fostering a culture of empathy and generosity. Through their actions, students learn that they have the power to effect positive change in the world around them. By making thoughtful choices and taking proactive steps, they become agents of change, demonstrating how small acts of kindness can lead to significant social impact. This empowerment not only benefits the individuals they help but also enriches our students' lives, teaching them valuable life lessons in responsibility, compassion, and global citizenship.

Pro-sociality has been defined as a positive, voluntary, and altruistic behaviour - the delivery of help or a benefit to one or more people which has a major positive impact on personal and social quality of life. Pro-social activities might be demonstrated by pupils sharing toys and resources, helping their friends, assisting a member of staff, tidying up the classroom, or teaching/supporting other children with their learning

Promoting Pro-Social Behaviour in Our Schools

In our schools, fostering pro-social behaviour is integral to creating an environment where empathy, ethics, and community engagement are not just taught but lived experiences. This approach not only enriches our students' educational journey but also ensures they grow into responsible, socially conscious individuals.

Our Approach

Each Key-stage or year group helps to decide on two pro-social charitable reward recipients or activities, eg:

  • Environmental Stewardship: Initiatives like litter picking and planting help students understand their role in protecting the planet.
  • Community Engagement: Writing letters to residents of local care homes, or creating artwork for communal spaces, fosters intergenerational connections and community spirit.
  • Supporting Causes: From organizing bake sales to donating books or other resources to those in need, students learn the importance of philanthropy and global citizenship.
  • Animal care: Children may choose to adopt an animal or make bird feeders to support local wildlife.
  • Teaching: Reading with a younger year group or running sports games for another class could be a fun way to help others.

Every time a child is seen to be doing something prosocial during the school day, and displaying a Trust value, they are rewarded with a token. The child chooses which pro-social reward box will receive their token and then when a box is full, that particular reward is earned and the whole Keystage does it.

Benefits to Students and the Community

This system not only cultivates a culture of kindness and responsibility among students but also directly impacts our wider community in positive ways. Students learn the importance of teamwork, the joy of helping others, and the value of contributing to a cause greater than themselves.

Through these pro-social activities, our students not only achieve personal growth but also contribute to a larger vision of creating an inclusive, supportive, and engaged community.

We recognise that life is full of ups and downs and that at times all people will face challenges that they need help and support to overcome. We aim to instill the values of Altruism and Ethics for others among our pupils. Our values ensure that opportunities to discuss the big issues, to challenge injustice and to engage in activities that can bring about change are always present.
